Ace of Wands
The Ace of Wands is the first step towards gaining meaningful life experience, it is a card of beginnings, initiative and action. There is something akin to the Magician here, and it is no coincidence – after all, it is the Wand that the Magician holds in his raised hand. As with the Magician, the card means not only fully conscious desires, but also sufficient strength to fulfill them.
It is believed that the Ace of Wands mainly relates to career and social advancement, however this is not always the case. As with the Magician, a person usually has a fairly good awareness of which area of life they have long been craving positive changes. And this card reports that new opportunities and unexpected events are approaching, and advises not to be afraid of new turns of fate. Risk is inseparable from self-realization. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained". If circumstances throw a challenge - it makes sense to test your strength in action, show courage and enjoy it!
The Ace of Wands is the spark of the spread, it enhances the energy of everything that is manifested in it, adds fire, and if the overall spread is unfavorable, then the presence of the Ace of Wands is something like an already burning fuse. But if the overall spread is favorable, then the Ace of Wands clearly announces a bright streak of life.
It symbolizes something fundamentally new - a new idea, a new view of things, some primary creative act, creative thought, invention, enterprise (as a rule, all this relates to the business sphere, although not necessarily). Metaphysically, this corresponds to the stage of the birth of an idea, its germ (or perhaps, rebirth). The Ace of Swords has a similar meaning, but there the emphasis is strong on conquest, struggle with someone, victory, while the Ace of Wands is a symbol of breaking free, liberation, casting off shackles, new growth despite the cutting off of roots (and sometimes - thanks to this). This is the starting point, the point of departure, the first step on the path to renewal and rebirth.
Any Ace is first and foremost an ACE! This is luck and strength, fortune, a happy coincidence of circumstances, some significant favorable event. An Ace is given "just like that", as a gift (it is impossible to "squeeze" its vibrations out of oneself independently, it either exists or it doesn't). This is the beginning of activity, enterprise, understanding. By this card, progress clearly arises in the matter, a qualitative positive leap is outlined or already taking place.
To the question of fulfilling a desire, the Ace of Wands gives a positive answer, hope for a successful outcome of any undertaking (if, of course, it is not next to an unfavorable Major Arcana, in which case it only emphasizes the unsuccessful course of events).
Adventures, vivid impressions, some bold enterprises, sometimes the possibility of traveling to new places. One of the meanings of the card is lineage, genealogy, origin (apparently, by association with the phallic symbol).
A card of liberated, unblocked personal strength and energy (true, mainly of the masculine type), manifestation of fiery qualities of dynamism, enthusiasm, activity and fearlessness.
Enterprise, courage, readiness to take risks, as well as inspiration, enthusiasm and personality development. Strengthening of will, convictions and moral principles, faith in oneself. Thus, in general, the Ace of Wands symbolizes life-affirmation, optimism, personal growth. It speaks of a real opportunity to be inspired by some cause, to live in a special energy of an elevated level
Peak of activity, fullness of ardor. Illumination, tension of thought (Promethean torch of reason), the appearance of some exciting idea, readiness to accept a challenge. Will, determination to fight if necessary (only less coldly and fiercely than in the case of the Ace of Swords). A sense of triumph, celebration, victory.
The creative fertilizing power of God, pure demiurgy. An unconstrained release of liberated energy. The creative power of the creative masculine principle. The initial creative act is connected with sexual energy, which comes into play whenever we strongly desire something and manifests in any sphere of life where a person needs "powder in the powder kegs".
The Ace of Wands is a symbol of the Universal Tree, the very one on which, according to the Edda, Odin hung "in sacrifice to himself", comprehending the wisdom of the runes.
A person perceives an idea that has descended from above like fire, it is imprinted in their mind. This is creative power and a divine gift. The birth of a concept, a push, a beginning and the acquisition of previously inaccessible understanding, the appearance of a THEME, a plan, a new idea, a creative thought.
Light and shadow (advice and warning)
The advice is simple: strike while the iron is hot! Keep your eyes and ears open so as not to miss the moment. Gather courage and do what you didn't dare to do.
The disadvantages of the Ace of Wands stem from increased energy. This is an excessive striving forward and complete indifference to what is not within the sphere of interests, lack of patience, stubborn adherence to one's course, regardless of one's own needs and the needs of others. Stubbornness, pressure. In fact, the warning is that one should not behave like a "club of the people's war". The ability to trust one's instincts is good, but only up to a certain limit. Moreover, as one witty modern tarot reader noted, this is an attempt to solve old problems with new scope.
Getting satisfaction from work (which often relates to the area of "Light it up!"). Inspiring beginning of a new business enterprise. Good ideas, sensible plans, favorable circumstances. New successful business, profitable trips, promotion. Creativity, something constructive - a solution, invention, new idea. Giving oneself to the cause with all ardor, a person reveals their potential to full capacity. And the result will most likely be a well-deserved triumph.
Traditionally, it is believed that the "career" suit of wands relates to the concept of social prestige. It is precisely this that is at stake, therefore such words as elevation and humiliation can be associated with the Ace of Wands. The beginning that the card symbolizes can lead a person to universal recognition and fame, or to a deterioration of reputation.
Home. Possibly inheritance. Income. Usually the Ace of Wands implies financial well-being as a result of career success (good work is well paid). New source of income, new place of work. Opportunity to earn by doing what you really like.
Initiative in love, joyful excitement, a flash of passion in already existing relationships or a new bright infatuation. True, this Ace usually does not promise particular duration. Any Ace is a chance that can be used. Whether to do it or not, everyone decides for themselves. But in general, the Ace of Wands is distinguished by exceptional strength of intention, and the personality described by it is simply combustible (in a good or bad sense – other cards will tell).
Traditionally, it is believed that if a girl is divining about her beloved, the Ace of Wands, especially in combination with the Arcana "Sun" or "World", predicts a successful marriage – true, after some time, but in general it is not far off. This is connected with the fact that the traditionally very "official" suit of wands is responsible for formalizing and legalizing relationships.
In the most everyday sense, it can mean male strength: if it falls to a man, it means he is fine with this matter, if to a woman – it indicates the strength of desire, the fullness of sexual experiences (which, as is known, in both sexes depend on the specifically male hormone testosterone), a bright temperament. The Ace of Wands promises a passionate intimate meeting, a passionate date, a stormy night. "It will be hot!" it unambiguously reports.
Among the meanings of the card are conception, birth of a child, in general indicates offspring (according to old interpretations, the reversed Ace of Wands is an indicator of illegitimate children). In the meaning of "inheritance", the card indicates good genes, inherited abilities.
Sometimes, in stagnant relationships, the card carries "escape to freedom", a flash of extraneous feelings and a break with a tiresome connection. In ancient interpretations, possibly due to the traditional "official-career" meaning of the suit of Wands, this Ace is interpreted as an indication of leisurely, stable and even development of relationships. Like, don't expect sharp changes for the better or worse, however the existing trend at the moment will gradually deepen, the card emphasizes the seriousness of intentions and does not allow going beyond the bounds of social decency.
Maybe for someone it is so, however practical observations to date incline to the thought that the Ace of Wands is still a bomb. Usually manifestations are unexpected, rapid and quite stormy, and with decency here things are sometimes so, sometimes not.
In the sphere of relationships, the advice of the Ace of Wands is extremely simple – turn up the heat! And do it without waiting for the other side to make the first step.
Traditionally, very strict indications are associated with the reversed Ace of Wands. This is a blow, fall, failure, collapse of plans, death, bankruptcy, ruin, loss, losses.
In any case, this is a firm "No!" in response to the question asked – even if a person is ready for changes, at present opportunities cannot be realized, hopes will not come true.
In a slightly more moderate version, this is an idea that will end in nothing. The card reports that a premature start was taken or the beginning was clearly unsuccessful. The project was poorly thought out, there was a lack of information, abilities, resources, confidence to cope with it. In reversed form, the Ace of Wands does not advise interfering in events, because the querent may not have enough strength. Wasted effort, delays, cancellations of all kinds of agreements, disruption of plans are possible. Sometimes the card means the absence of new ideas, narrow-mindedness, unwillingness to accept anything new, delusions, inadequate perception of reality, loss of meaning (purpose), decline, aging, senility.
In the everyday sense, for men – problems with potency, for women – an indication of the absence of a man, sometimes of infertility or abortion (although regarding the latter, the Ace of Swords is more informative). This card also indicates an unsuitable partner, compatibility problems.
With the Two of Cups – love dangerous to reputation.
With the Ace of Cups – deep feelings, love, passion.
With the King of Cups – creative achievement.
With Strength, reversed Ace of Swords – large offspring.
With the reversed King of Pentacles – children will sin much.
Eternal Father.
World Tree, Yggdrasil.
Lucifer, Prometheus.
Ignition spark.
